Listening helps learning speaking

Speak English

When you start listening to language English, you start picking up the sound patterns of the language.

It’s like, you listen to a song. You first pick up the tune of the song. Later you pick the lyrics of that song. I mean the words that are there in the lines of the song. So, as you listen to language English, you get the tune of English first and the words later. You try to listen to native speakers as many number of times as possible to you….and there you pick up the right tune (sound pattern) of the language. Once you get habituated to the sound of English, it will be easy for you to reproduce those sounds while practicing speaking.

English speaking practice

When you listen to something, you start repeating the words or phrases in the same pattern, just imitate. Initially you may not find situations where you can use those words or sentences. but, keep imitating those very words and sentences. You will start sounding more of a native English speaker in the first place. In other words you made yourself familiar with the sound patterns of the language English.

Watch talk shows and imitate. Talk shows are very natural. They give you the ideas of how English is spoken in everyday life. As you imitate them, you sound natural too.

Listen to English songs. Come on, Everybody likes music. I am sure, you too. Listen to your favourite singer, band. Learn two or three songs, practise singing. Karaoke is one of the best ways to practise and to sing along. You learn how to get your vocal chords produce the kind of sound that is required to speak English fluently.

Listen to English conversations regularly. You find plenty of situational conversations online. Practise one or two conversations daily. Get somebody to be your speaking partner and practise speaking.

Practise giving a speech. If you are good at writing, write your own speech. If not, you can find speeches for different occasions on the internet. Download or take a print out. Stand in front of a mirror and practise speaking.

Dear friends, I hope you got some ideas as how to improve your English speaking skills.
